The ABCs of Graphic Web DesignI haven't found a tip for every letter of the alphabet yet, but I'll get there. You just watch. The fact of the matter is that I have MORE tips than I have letters of the alphabet -- but they're mostly doubled and tripled up on popular letters. I may find a way to squeeze these tips in elsewhere, but for now, here's the list. Alignment. When to center your text (never), and proper aligning. Balance. How to create a visually pleasing balance to your page, with examples from Yahoo.com. Color. How many colors to use? As few as possible. Do The Same As Everybody Else. Breaking ground in site design is not your job. Leave it to the big boys. Engine Rank, Search. If you want robots to read your site, you must use words. Duh. Fonts. What fonts to use, and which are easier to read. GIFs. When to use GIFs, and the worst thing to put on your site. Headings. Heading tags seem a bit amateurish, but they exist for a reason. Images and Flash. The trick to delivering your optimized image? The answer might be Flash. Java Is Not Javascript. Understand the difference, and know which one kills your site. Keep It Simple.
